College Touring

Mondays can be tough but I'm always grateful for another week.  This morning had a foggy and cool start to the day but we are supposed to see temperatures reaching to the 80's again and possibly for the last time this season.  Rain is expected tomorrow, which will bring seasonal temperatures.

On Friday I took a day off work and escorted my son to one of the colleges he has been looking at and was accepted to.  They were having an open house and we got to meet some of the staff and students and see dorms and classrooms.  He even met the coach and some of the runners and was offered a spot on the cross-country team.  It's a beautiful campus but his heart seems to be set on the college he toured with his dad the week before.  Both are Christian colleges, something that is important to him.

That morning started with an early wake up as I had to get my daughter awake so she could get ready for school.  I made a cup of coffee and slipped back under the blankets with my coffee and devotional book.  I'm usually in such a rush in the morning so it was such a nice way to spend the start of the day.  I had wished that could be my routine every day.  As much as I love working and need to work I also dream of being back to those stay-at-home mom days.  I know it's not fair to my husband because he does need the financial help but I can wish for simpler days, right?

The campus is in the next county so it was not a far drive and the open house lasted five hours but it felt long.

I was so happy to have had a day spent with my boy.  That little boy who ran into my arms for a hug and depended on me for everything is now almost 18 and preparing a future of adulting.  It's an experience all parents have to face and I'm not ready for it.  I'm just glad he's still really close to us and I hope that relationship continues.

  1. I’m sure the relationship you built with your son will always be there. I have excellent relationships with mine - of course it’s never the same as when they were little boys. It’s all good.

    1. Thank you. I struggle with wanting them to be small again but am trying to embrace who they are now.

  2. Dawn Marie, this post touched my heart. My boys are both grown and married and the relationships just get better with time. But even now, I still cherish the times when I get to spend time talking with my boys (they are 32 & 26). I also relate to having to work, when my heart is still at home. I was a SAHM for 32 years and just went back to work this past year when my husband lost his job (2 weeks before Christmas). I cried for the first few weeks. Even though my kids haven't lived at home for years now, I still grieved over giving up my role at home. Thankfully the Lord gave me a job where I have time off, every other week, and it fills that desire to be in my home.

Also, I saw that your header says you would love to write a book. How's that going? If you've visited my blog, you might have noticed my books on the sidebar. If you have any questions about publishing, I'll be happy to tell you what I know. Good luck with those dreams :) It's very fulfilling when it actually happens. Take care :)

  3. Thank you for sharing all of this. Each stage of life is both a challenge and blessing. I'm trying to work through accepting life for what it is now while really missing when my kids were babies. Well, as for my writing, I am currently working on a book that is a Christian fiction story and because of how much I have going on it's been hard to find the time to get it all finished. I've been working on it for a long time but in the last month I've really been able to dive into it. I've been writing stories for as long as I can remember. I did work on the school newspaper and I did have a few submissions published in my high school literary magazine (so many years ago) but as far as books nothing published yet. It is a dream I am not letting go of. Yes, I did see your books and I definitely would love to order them. They look very interesting.
